A bot, or the audio on your machine

Granola does not send a bot into the call. Basic is $0 per user per month: notes, templates, voice typing, and 30 days of meeting history. Business is $14 per user per month for unlimited history, advanced models, and integrations with Notion, HubSpot, Zapier, and Attio. Enterprise is $35 per user per month and adds SSO. The cards do not show an annual discount.

Fathom, from the October 23 listing, joins Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams. Free lists unlimited recordings and a summary on each call. The help center, edited June 4, 2026, says advanced summaries cover the first 5 calls each month on Free. Premium is $20 per user per month, or $16 billed annually. Team is $19, or $15 annually, with a 2-user minimum. The Fathom vs Otter page is the comparison with Otter.ai, which caps a free conversation at 30 minutes.

What the free plan remembers

Granola Basic keeps 30 days of history, and the chat across meetings on that plan is the automatic one. A guest interview from last season is gone unless you moved the notes. Business removes the 30-day cap. Voice typing is on Basic, and it types into other apps. It is not a podcast editor.

Fathom's October 23 listing does not meter recording minutes on Free. The limit it does name is the advanced summary, after 5 calls a month. A long interview still fits. The summary is a meeting summary. You will rewrite it if it has to become show notes. Otter's October 20 listing gives Basic 300 minutes a month and a 30-minute cap per conversation, which is the one that cuts off a full episode.

Which call you are actually recording

A guest who will not admit a bot is Granola's case. The capture is the audio on your computer. A Zoom that already expects a recorder is Fathom's case, and the free plan does not charge by the minute. Neither one cuts the episode after the call.

If the notes have to live next to the edit, the Transcription and show notes list has the tools that start from the episode file. Granola and Fathom start from the live conversation. Business on Granola is $14 with no annual price on the card. Premium on Fathom, from October 23, is $20, or $16 billed annually.

Questions

Does Granola join the meeting as a bot?

The pricing page describes bot-free capture from the device audio. Fathom's October 23 listing records a Zoom, Google Meet, or Teams call, which is a bot in the meeting. Use Granola when the guest should not see a recorder. Use Fathom when the meeting already allows one.

How long does the free plan keep the notes?

Granola Basic keeps 30 days of meeting history. Business is $14 per user per month and removes that cap. Fathom's October 23 listing does not put a day limit on Free recordings. It does limit advanced summaries to the first 5 calls each month.

Can either one write podcast show notes?

Both write a meeting summary. That is a useful draft of an interview and a weak public description of a show. The show-notes tools in the transcription list start from the episode file. Granola and Fathom start from the call.
